to be governor romney has to tie the poor economic conditions we find ourselves in right now to the failure of the president's policies. he has to be able to litigate and make the case that the policies the president has put forward have caused the economy to continue to go down. folks believe the economy is bad right now but what they don't actually believe is it is the president's fault. he has to make that case in the debate with the president standing on the stage with him that the president is the one to blame for the economy we've got right now. >> there is something going on. if he acts too much on the attack, it will look like he is showing disrespect to the president but if he doesn't, then he looks defer yen shl. coach me, tell me how to walk on that stage -- deferential. coach me without being deferential? >> it's a matter of tone and how you address the president. as long as governor romney addresses the president with mr. president, your policies have failed the american people. i think as long as he carries a respectful tone. he needs to be what i would say as passionately agg

's -- krauthammer talks about -- romney does talk about foreign policy, a 20th century entitlement system, he talks about america and the need to be unapologetic. he talks about all these things. the problem romney has is he can't go a week talking about these things because he is tripping over his own words and gaffes whether the clint eastwood moment or running to criticize obama for the libya attacks and each and every time he tries to build momentum around these themes, build a larger place to get obama out -- he over shadows. >> you just said theme. that is what charles krauthammer says. he said if there were an over arching thing mitt romney was carrying from foreign policy -- >> you can only build that theme if you do it day in and day out and obama has done his theme which is romney is this rich guy who is going to outsource everything. he's been tripped up every now and then but by and large has been consistent. mitt romney has been his own worst enemy. >> that is the problem kelly. they don't have a big over arching theme as charles krauthammer says that carries them through a week where

to be increasing his lead over mitt romney. is that because at heart voters don't really vote on foreign policy, or is it because they don't think romney is any more credible than the president on foreign policy matters? >> well, actually, gregg, if you start looking closely at some of those interim polls -- internal polls, if you start looking specifically at the question about job approval on handling of national security and foreign policy issues, over the last couple of weeks president obama's numbers have really steadily dropped -- gregg: but only 4% say they vote on such matters. >> well, that may be the case, but it is an overall picture when voters go to the polls. we understand we're in a war whether we want to see it clearly or not, we are in a war, and we're not just voting for an economic steward or president, we're also voting for a commander in chief. there was a brand new national bloomberg poll released today, gregg, that actually shows governor romney leading president obama on the issue of terrorism by six points. gregg: julie, we know now that within 24 hours of this 9/11 att

of romney ryan. paul ryan clearly went off the president on foreign policy, listen to this from yesterday. >> turn on the tv and it reminds you of 1979 tehran, when they're burning our flags and capitals all around the world. they're storming our embassieem we've lost four of our diplomates and what is the signal that our government is sending the rest of the world? we're being equivocal on our values, we're being slow to speak up for individual rights, for human rights, for democracy. stuart: a reminder again, please, the president is addressing the u.n. today at around 10 a.m. eastern, but rather than meeting with the world's leaders, he'll appear on the view, roughly late morning eastern time. a few more details on ahmadnejad in new york. here for the united nations general assembly and will address the assembly tomorrow, that will be yom kippur. according to iran's news agency he'll meet with members of the occupy wall street movement and looks like he'll be staying with the one percenters, and staying in a hotel in a room that costs $775 per night. and the world leaders are assembled

romney says there is a model he's promised a veto. the gerry before the radical policy prescription called deportation, the idea of making life so miserable here that immigrants are literally purged from the country so it's hurt badly but hispanics. the strategy, that strategy means as you point out in your excellent paper, really the southwest is out of reach in large part because of this. they've pulled off the mexico. they have a shot in colorado and nevada but if the turnout is high not much. so thankfully the hispanic strategy that the romney strategy has been let's talk about the economy. the cuban americans and puerto ricans and in hopes we can peel off just enough of them because maybe that will be the trick. the problem is in florida of the hispanic electorate has changed quite significantly. the fastest-growing group are dimond puerto rican latin american immigrants for whom immigration is a defining issue in a litmus test issue. roughly a third now. so i suspect he's going to have a hard time winning florida in part because of the changing demographics of the latino elect
